Case Study
National ECD Study in Bhutan Leads to Universal ELM Programming
Improving ECD Access and ELM Outcomes
Introduction
IDELA's nationwide application in Bhutan resulted in comprehensive government initiatives to address significant gaps in the country's Early Childhood Development (ECD) programming. Data revealing weak Early Literacy and Math (ELM) skills and poor inclusion of marginalized children led to programming to enhance ELM across the country and scale up alternative models of reaching children who lack access to ECD services. Save the Children is collaborating with Bhutan's Ministry of Education and Ministry to Health to implement these programs. Using IDELA as a single, unifying metric gave Bhutan the data it needed to direct and expand its ECD programming.
