Assessing Developmental Levels of Preschool-Aged Children in Myanmar: Insights from IDELA

Summary

The study, conducted in the Yangon Region of Myanmar, evaluated the developmental levels of 240 preschool-aged children using the International Development Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) tool. Data collected in March-April 2022 revealed the following insights: the highest average scores were in approaches to learning (78.35%) and executive functions (63.58%), with motor development scoring the lowest (48.97%). Children were categorized into three developmental stages: 76.25% were in the emerging stage, 19.58% at the mastering level, and 4.17% struggling. Age analysis showed that older children (5 years) consistently outperformed younger peers (3 and 4 years) across all domains. Results highlight the critical need for targeted interventions to address developmental disparities, particularly in motor skills. The study underscores the importance of early education strategies that foster balanced growth across all developmental areas, with specific attention to the unique needs of younger and struggling children.
