Pre-Intervention ECD Assessment of Children and Caregivers in Bangladesh

Supporting the needs of children and mothers in ready-made garment factories in Dhaka

Introduction

To support the needs of women and children by creating safe spaces and improving access to preschool education and parenting programs, PVH Corporation and Save the Children have engaged in a partnership to better the lives and livelihoods of garment workers and their children. This report is a pre-intervention assessment done in February 2019, prior to the commencement of the program activities. 433 children were randomly chosen to participate in the assessment. The presentation provides in depth graphs and analysis of IDELA results and well as a summary of lessons learned.

The research study aims to answer the following questions:

What is the status of 3-6 years old children’s development and learning outcomes in the four core developmental domains: i) motor development; ii) emergent language and literacy; iii) emergent numeracy/problem solving; and iv) social-emotional skills in in urban factories in Dhaka prior to the commencement of the PVH ECD in Factories intervention?

What is the status of 0-6 years old children’s parents/caregivers knowledge, attitude and practice in applying learning activities with respect to early childhood development in factories in urban factories in Dhaka prior to the commencement of the PVH ECD in Factories intervention?
