This data set includes data from 638 children in Rising Academies schools in Liberia (25% of the total student body). The average age of children was 6.9 years old. Data was collected in September and October of 2017 as part of a child-outcome monitoring project. The full IDELA instrument was not used, but data was collected on the Motor, Emergent Literacy, and Emergent Numeracy Domains.
IDELA Domains and Equity
Average learning and development scores in IDELA domains
On average, children scored 58% correct on this version of the IDELA assessment (which did not include the Social-Emotional Domain).
Distribution of total IDELA scores
The distribution of IDELA scores reveals that the scores were high on average and roughly normal. This is likely due to the high average age of children. Despite this, one in four students scored below 40% correct.
Distribution of children’s ages
There was a large range of children’s ages. Most children were 6-9 years old, with substantial numbers of both older and younger children.
Average IDELA scores by child’s age
Age was significantly related with all domains. On average, one additional year was associated with an additional 5.6 percentage points on total IDELA score.
Distribution of children’s gender
51% of children in the sample were boys. Girls and boys did not differ in their IDELA Total scores.
