This dataset includes 300 children from the Sikasso region of southern Mali. Children were 4.9 years old on average. Some children were enrolled in different types of ECCD programming (center and home-based) and some had no access to ECCD services. These data were collected as part of a monitoring study conducted by Save the Children's Sponsorship program.
Average learning and development scores in IDELA domains
On average, children scored 32% correct on the IDELA assessment.

There was a large range in children’s scores, but the common score was 21-30% correct.
Distribution of children’s ages
Most children in the sample were five years old.
Average IDELA scores by child’s age
Age was significantly related to IDELA scores. On average, one additional year of age was associated with an additional 10 percentage points correct in overall IDELA score.
Distribution of children’s gender
51% of children in the sample were female. There was no significant difference in total IDELA score between boys and girls in this sample.
