This dataset includes data from 638 children in Malabon, Navotas, and Caloocan cities of Metro Manila in the Philippines. Data was collected in 25 kindergartens from August 2016 to March 2017 as a part of study of Save the Children's Sponsorship support to public schools. The average age of children was 5.1.

On average, children scored 72% correct on the IDELA assessment.

Distribution of Total IDELA scores

Scores were fairly high on the assessment, with a large number demonstrating a high level of early learning and development. However, nearly 20% of children scored lower than 60%.

Most children in the sample were 5 years old.

Average IDELA scores by child’s age

IDELA scores were weakly associated with age. On average, one additional year of age was associated with an additional four percentage points correct in overall IDELA score.

Distribution of children’s gender

51% of children in the sample were female.

Average Total IDELA score by child’s gender

Girls scored significantly higher than boys. The average girl answered 74% of questions correctly, while the average boy answered 70% correctly.
