This dataset includes data from 318 children in the delegation of Tlalpan in Mexico City, Mexico. Data was collected at 21 ECCD centers supported by Save the Children programs in March of 2016. The average age of children was 4.4.

On average, children scored 65% correct on the IDELA assessment.

Distribution of Total IDELA scores

A fairly large number of children displayed a high level of early learning and development, but many children still exhibited low levels.

Distribution of children’s ages

The age range was wide in the sample, but most children were four or five years old.

Average IDELA scores by child’s age

Age was significantly and strongly related to IDELA scores. On average, one additional year was associated with an additional 13 percentage points correct in overall IDELA score.

Distribution of children’s gender

54% of children in the sample were male.

Average Total IDELA score by child’s gender

There was a large and significant difference in IDELA scores by gender. On average, girls scored seven percentage points higher on Total IDELA than boys.
