This data set includes data from 399 children and caregivers in the Nakasongola district of Uganda. The data were collected as the baseline of a quasi-experimental impact evaluation examining standard ECCD and ELM ECCD centers. The average age of children was 5.09 years.

On average, children scored 50% correct on the IDELA assessment.

Distribution of total IDELA scores

The distribution of IDELA scores was fairly normal, with 51-60% the most common score range. However, nearly one in ten students scored below 30%.

Distribution of children’s ages

Most children in the sample were 5 years old.

Average IDELA scores by child’s age

On average, one additional year was associated with an additional 9 percentage points correct in overall IDELA score.

Distribution of children’s gender

55% of children in the sample were female. Girls and boys did not differ in their IDELA Total scores.
