This dataset includes data from 98 children studying at 27 Angawadi Centers in urban Bangalore. The average age of children was 4.2 years. The data was collected as part of a baseline assessment in Integrated Child Development Centers that receive Save the Children support.

On average, children scored 18% correct on the IDELA assessment.

Distribution of Total IDELA scores

Overall scores were very low, with the most common category 0-10%. However, there was a very high non-response rate which may have negatively impacted results.

Most children in the sample were four years old.

Average IDELA scores by child’s age

The correlation between age and IDELA score was weaker than in many datasets. Only Motor and Overall IDELA were significantly related to age. On average, one additional year of age was associated with an additional seven percentage points correct in overall IDELA score.

Distribution of children’s gender

57% of children in the sample were female.
